What in the world is a News-tacular? Well, I didn’t want to do another boring newletter. I wanted something more spectacular. Hence, the News-tacular. The News-tacular will be filled with all sorts of goodies to make your next park related project a unique and successful one. Below you’ll find a story about Liam’s Playground, a very unique and touching playground located in Cape Coral, FL. We also review some unique new playground products, and highlight a fantastic sale from Playworld Systems, Inc.

Liam’s Playground

Over 2,000 people were present on May 15th for the dedication of Liam’s Playground at Rotary Park in Cape Coral, FL! Just 3 days before Christmas, our Weimaraner, Lloyd, bit Liam in the neck in the worst possible spot. My husband was just inches away. Our lives changed forever on that day, our sweet Liam didn’t make it. In honor of Liam, the Liam J. Perk foundation was set up to promote dog bite awareness and safety through education, seminars, school presentations and events. Liam’s death will never go away, therefore dog bite awareness should never go away. The playground was designed with much love, and Playworld had the right products to make it memorable. Products that have character and are uniquely designed. They also created custom graphics that represented something special to our family, and reminded us of Liam. Color was also important as we used brown posts to represent his dark brown eyes, lime and tangerine like his room and clothes.

| ENERGI – Total Body Fitness System |
As the brochure states, “ENERGI combines functional fitness and body-weight training to deliver a synergistic workout that connects all five of the body’s major anatomical systems and exercises nearly all of its 206 bones and 600 muscles. Rather than isolating the muscles to work them independently (like weight machines), ENERGI uses multi-joint, multi-plane muscle movements, an integrated approach that better prepares the body for the demands of real life”.
That sounds fantastic, but what’s it really like? I was fortunate enough to use this equipment for two days at its unveiling in Estero, FL. Fresh off of several weeks of my P90X workouts, I was certain it would be a breeze. But it worked me. I sweat, I increased my strength, it worked my entire body, it was a great workout. What’s excellent about body-weight training is you get to decide how much effort you want to put forth. ENERGI has exercises that any beginner can accomplish, and it works its way up to exercises that would please the hard-core types. If there was one of these by my house, I’d cancel my $60/month gym membership. The thing I liked about it from an owner’s perspective is this – no moving parts (well, one moving part anyways). I’ve placed many of the machine type outdoor exercise equipment in parks, and inevitably, something works its way loose, a bolt falls out, repairs and replacements happen. I see ENERGI being an inexpensive, worry-free, complete workout solution.

This piece of playground equipment looks innocent enough. As I curled up inside of it and held on to the edges, I asked, “Does this thing really go upside doWWWNWNWNNWNNNNN?” Before I could finish, I was being spun around like a load of laundry on spin cycle. Personally, I’m not a big fan of spinning. And when I got out I headed for a nearby bench but couldn’t walk straight enough to get there. When I finally made it, I sat down and watched kid after kid use the thing, screaming, laughing, playing. They ate it up and truly loved it. And that’s what’s important. For them, a truly exhilarating experience.

Because I want people to know this News-tacular came from a real person. Not from some spam-bot. I’m here to help them, to lighten their load on their next park related project. |
